During this short trip, you will also drive across the border to visit striking Spanish towns.

Day 1
Castelo Branco
Castelo Branco, Portugal

After arriving at Lisbon airport, your 3-day short trip through Portugal’s historic centre begins immediately with a drive eastwards towards Castelo Branco. The garden of the episcopal palace is small, but well cared for and simply must be seen for its many statues, some of which are very surprising. The city of Castelo Branco is also known for its embroidered linen and natural silk bedspreads (museum does not open on Mondays).

Monsanto
Monsanto, Portugal

The next stop on this short trip is Monsanto, a village in the mountains with hobbit-like houses built on and around massive boulders. It is steep, but if you want, you can hike all the way to the top to admire the castle and the view.

Castelo Rodrigo
Castelo Rodrigo, Portugal

During the drive on the way to Castelo Rodrigo in the Serra da Marofa. you can recover a bit from the walk. Rodrigo is a walled medieval village. The fortress and the castle were built as a fortress and are definitely worth a visit!

After breakfast, you will continue your short trip to Ciudad Rodrigo, a small cathedral city in Spain with many attractions and monuments that are only open in the morning. The impressive main square is home to the town hall and offers nice terraces to rest and have a drink or a meal.

Caceres
Cáceres, Spain

Afterwards, you had to the Spanish town of Cáceres. The old walled city quarter is home to numerous old historic buildings, many of which date back to the Middle Ages. Choose from the many palaces and noble houses, such as the Carvajal Palace, the Bishop's Palace, Los Golfines de Abajo Palace and the Cathedral. Around the large square outside the ramparts there are numerous restaurants and nice terraces where you can relax with a refreshing wine and a delicious Spanish dish.

Later in the day, you we will drive to Marvão in Portugal to have an overnight stay.

Marvão
Marvão, Portugal

The beautiful village of Marvão is built on a granite rock of the Serra de São Mamede. The castle was built in the 8th century. The castle and the walled village were further fortified throughout the centuries. The village itself is very special and was included in the book "1000 Places to see Before you Die", number 1 on the New York Times bestseller list. Besides the charm of this village, the views of the surrounding region from the castle are phenomenal!

Tomar, Portugal

Mid-morning, this short trip through the historic centre of Portugal to Tomar to visit the Convento de Cristo (UNESCO World Heritage Site), built in the late 12th century by order of Gualdim Pais, the fourth Grand Master of the Knights Templar. Tomar was not only important to the Templars, but was also a centre of Portuguese overseas expansion under Henry the Navigator (15th century), the Grand Master of the Order of Christ.

After a visit to the Convento and a short walk through the centre of Tomar, drive back to Lisbon airport. Of course, it is also possible to extend your stay in Portugal with a beach holiday on the Silver Coast!.
