Programme

Day 1
Castelo Branco
Castelo Branco, Portugal

We welcome you at Lisbon airport and start our 3-day mini-tour through the historic centre of Portugal immediately eastwards towards Castelo Branco. The garden of the Bishop's Palace is small but well cared for and simply must be seen for its many statues, some of which are very surprising. The city of Castelo Branco is also known for its embroidered linen and natural silk bedspreads (museum does not open on Mondays).

Monsanto
Monsanto, Portugal

Our next stop on this tour is Monsanto, a village in the mountains with hobbit-like houses built on and around massive boulders. It is steep, but if you want, you can climb all the way to the top to admire the castle and the view.

Castelo Rodrigo
Castelo Rodrigo, Portugal

You can rest later on the way to Castelo Rodrigo in the Serra da Marofa. Castelo Rodrigo is a walled medieval village. The fortress and the castle were built as a fortress and are definitely worth a visit!

Overnight stay: in Castelo Rodrigo.

Day 2
ciudad-rodrigo
Ciudad Rodrigo, Spain

After breakfast, we will continue our guided short trip to Ciudad Rodrigo, a small cathedral city in Spain with many attractions and monuments that are only open in the morning. The impressive main square is home to the town hall and offers nice terraces to rest and have a drink or a meal.

Caceres
Cáceres, Spain

Afterwards, we move on to the Spanish town of Cáceres. The old walled city quarter is home to numerous old historic buildings, many of which date back to the Middle Ages. Choose from the many palaces and noble houses, such as the Carvajal Palace, the Bishop's Palace, Los Golfines de Abajo Palace and the Cathedral. Around the large square outside the ramparts there are numerous restaurants and nice terraces where you can relax with a refreshing wine and a delicious Spanish dish.

Overnight stay:
Later in the day we will drive to Marvão in Portugal to spend the night.

Day 3
Marvão
Marvão, Portugal

The beautiful village of Marvão is built on a granite rock of the Serra de São Mamede. The castle was built in the 8th century. The castle and the walled village were further fortified throughout the centuries. The village itself is very special and was included in the book "1000 Places to see Before you Die", number 1 on the New York Times bestseller list. Besides the charm of this village, the views of the surrounding region from the castle are phenomenal!

Tomar, Portugal

Mid-morning, we continue our mini-tour through the historic centre of Portugal to Tomar to visit the Convento de Cristo (UNESCO World Heritage Site), built in the late 12th century by order of Gualdim Pais, the fourth Grand Master of the Knights Templar. Tomar was not only important to the Templars, but was also a centre of Portuguese overseas expansion under Henry the Navigator (15th century), the Grand Master of the Order of Christ.

After a visit to the Convento and a short visit to the centre of Tomar, we take you back to Lisbon airport.
